RedBoot 2.04 customized for the Gateworks Avila family. This RedBoot source has been customized to operate on the Gateworks Avila platforms. This source has also had the Intel Access Library integrated to allow for NPE use within RedBoot. The ${TOPDIR}/Makefile is provided to assist with rebuilding RedBoot. This Makefile will allow you to build a RedBoot binary for any Avila platform. Unlike past version's of RedBoot, this one will work with any size of dram's. After a successful build the RedBoot ROM binary ready to be flashed to an Avila platform will be located in ${TOPDIR}/images by default and will be named rb.bin. You can change the destination directory by altering the OUTPUT_DIR at the top of the Makefile. The ${TOPDIR}/bin/ecosconfig tool is used to prepare the RedBoot build tree. This tool requires TCL libraries to be available as it is dynamically linked against TCL and other system libraries. You will not be able to rebuild RedBoot if the ecosconfig tool cannot be executed. You may optionally, rebuild the ecosconfig tool to work on your development host. See the ${TOPDIR}/host/README file for instructions on rebuilding ecosconfig. After rebuilding ecosconfig you must place it in ${TOPDIR}/bin so that the Makefile can locate it. Build Instructions --------------------------------- 1) Make sure you have the xscale-elf- Cross Compiler described below within your PATH. If the xscale-elf- Cross Compiler is not located in /opt/H-i686-pc-linux-gnulibc2.2/bin you must change the variable named TOOL_PATH at the top of the Makefile. 2) Adjust packages/devs/eth/intel/npe/common/current/cdl/intel_npe_eth_drivers.cdl if needed as described below. 3) # make 4) Use resulting images/rb.bin to flash to Avila board. Cross Compiler --------------------------------- xscale-elf Cross Compiler must be within your path ftp://ftp.ges.redhat.com/private/gnupro-xscale-030422/i686-pc-linux-gnulibc2.2-x-xscale-elf.tar.Z # export PATH=/opt/path_to_xscale-elf-gcc:$PATH ByteSwap --------------------------------- The resulting RedBoot binary ${TOPDIR}/images/rb-64.bin has already been byteswapped upon a successful build. It is ready to be flashed to an Avila board via JTAG using the DOS based Gateworks Flash Programmer Tool (FLASH.EXE). The tools/byteswap tool is used to byteswap the image located at build/install/bin/redboot.bin and output it to the OUTPUT_DIR. NPE Link Check Delay --------------------------------- During npe_init the Intel Access Library performs excessive (in our opinion) link checks and other initialization which delays RedBoot by up to 6 seconds. To reduce the delay by a substantial amount a compiler define has been placed to eliminate link media checking if so desired. To enable skipping the link check, edit the following file: packages/devs/eth/intel/npe/common/v2_0/cdl/intel_npe_eth_drivers.cdl and add -DSKIP_NPE_LINK_CHECK under CYGPKG_DEVS_ETH_INTEL_NPE_CFLAGS_ADD
